Want to be a gym leader?
If you are interested in being a gym leader, we have a few things we look for:
Consistent Attendance
We are looking for someone who will show up to all the meetings! About 4 monthly meetings in a row is required before Gym Leader Consideration. If you need to break your streak, just message the event or Becky ahead of time in order to maintain good communication.
Ability to Battle Competitively
Win at least half the current badges of the league. Here we are not only looking for your ability to do well, but also how you react to losing. We want to maintain a fun and welcoming environment for all participants, so rage quitting / pouting when losing or overly gloating when winning are red flags. Everyone is still welcome to attend meetings, but we hold our gym leaders to a higher standard. We don't want you to be easy, but we also don't want you to make the experience less fun to newcomers.
Willingness to do things outside of show up to League Nights
We have lots of jobs that need doing for Pokemon League. We upkeep the website, look for new pokemon events in the DMV area to advertise, look for new bars to meet at, run the instagram, keep engagement on the Facebook Page, advertise on and off facebook, and volunteer at conventions. We also plan on running tournaments for the club once we are big enough and coming up with tournament ideas. Be prepared to work with the current gym leaders on some of these things outside of normal League Nights.
Respect the gym leaders decisions
Sometimes we can't take new gym leaders because we already have too many prospects. We can only put so many people on trial at a time. We want to slowly roll out new people to the league and not rush to 8+ gyms. Aside from just the things above, we want people who will work well with our group, so if you fight us when we can't take new prospects right now, then we probably don't want to invite you to work closely with us. Please respect the process. None of us are paid and we are doing this for fun in our free time. Thank you for understanding.
